Brief Description of Duties / Responsibilities

As a Financial Advisor, my goal is to help those around me understand how they can achieve financial independence and ensure they have enough wealth to use as a tool to fund their lifelong aspirations.

What Has Been Your Proudest Accomplishment Post-CWP?

Having the ability to work at an incredible firm that aligns with my moral values while being able to pursue my passion of helping others!

CWP Career Impact

In one sentence, what has CWP meant to you?

CWP has given me the confidence to go outside my comfort zone, which is a crucial aspect of being successful in my career.

How did your CWP experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?

By doing such a labor intensive internship, I was able to land a job with Thrivent Financial, a Fortune 300 company before I was even graduated. By demonstrating my will to go above and beyond the work ethic of an average college student, I was able to get into a field which is heavily dominated by older professionals while still in my early 20's.

What do you want to tell your clients about what it meant to work with them and how it has helped you get to where you are today?

Lynn/Jeff Vilker were my favorite clients I worked with. I know how awful I did in that estimate, it was my very first one by myself. They gave me a chance I didn't necessarily earn, and that estimate gave me the confidence to excel in this program. At the end of the painting process, Lynn gave me a letter detailing how hard I worked "in the freezing cold of february", I will never forget that day. They were an incredibly wonderful couple to provide service to, and there is absolutely no way I would be where I am today without the two of them!

What was the greatest lesson you learned from your CWP experience?

Do what you need to do now, so you can do what you want to do later! Thanks Taylor!

How has the friendships and networks you built during CWP affected you?

The friends I made at College Works are still a crucial part of my life even after leaving the company 2 years ago. If I ever have a bad day, I know I can call my former DM Matt Schmidt and talk things through. A group of us still get together for New Year's eve celebrations each year and we always have a blast catching up with each other.

If you had to come up with an one line slogan for CWP, what would it be? :)

What advice do you have for potential CWP participants? Current CWP participants?

For potential and current CWP participants my advice is this, put your heart and soul into making the most of this opportunity. Nobody likes the early stages of making change, everyone just wants the results that come from change. By putting in a lot of effort and learning about yourself along the way, you will grow exponentially as a professional.

Many college students struggle to choose between an internship specific to their target industry or doing CWP. What advice would you give them on this subject if they wanted to enter your career field?

As a financial advisor, I have to start from scratch building a book of business for which I will work with over my working career. CWP teaches you how to do this at a young age. In addition, it teaches you how to deal with a variety of client personalities, which allows me to understand and proactively see where issues could arise.

What's your best advice for someone interested in entering your career field?

It is all about networking and being able to gain trust in a potential client. People do not choose to work with you based on a score you received on a test, they choose to work with you because they truly trust you and can count on you to do as you say.

What's your favorite memory from CWP?

My favorite memory from CWP was playing Mafia at a retreat my district manager year. For anyone reading in the Great Lakes division, just remember, Kyle is always mafia!!!!

Last words of wisdom

Put 100% into each and every day, success will come eventually.
