Brief Description of Duties / Responsibilities

Overseeing 10 Emergency Departments in the Chicagoland area. Practicing as an emergency physician.

What Has Been Your Proudest Accomplishment Post-CWP?

Graduating medical school, getting into residency at Northwestern, becoming a department chair, and leading my hospital's COVID-19 response.

CWP Career Impact

In one sentence, what has CWP meant to you?

CWP taught me how to fail forward.

How did your CWP experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?

Having an entrepreneurial experience at a young age has a profound impact on how one sees the world as an owner vs. employee. This led me to wonder about pursuing a path to medicine until I realize both were possible. I now am a partner in a physician-owned group where ownership mentality is the key to our success.

What was the greatest lesson you learned from your CWP experience?

Failing forward.

How has the friendships and networks you built during CWP affected you?

I still maintain close relationships with a handful of CWP colleagues in addition to my division vice president.

If you had to come up with an one line slogan for CWP, what would it be? :)

This is the opportunity to learn how to launch a business from scratch while having oversight from someone who has done it before.

What advice do you have for potential CWP participants? Current CWP participants?

It is experiential learning rather than what is likely more familiar classroom didactic style learning. It is not linear in the way studying for classroom subjects often is.

Many college students struggle to choose between an internship specific to their target industry or doing CWP. What advice would you give them on this subject if they wanted to enter your career field?

The skills gained with CWP are broad and transferable to all industries. Employers and graduate schools are seeking talent and quick learners.

What's your best advice for someone interested in entering your career field?

You must gain the knowledge needed to become a skilled physician. But beyond this, learning leadership and how to align with multiple stakeholders becomes a rare and highly valuable skill.

What's your favorite memory from CWP?

Last words of wisdom

Few internships at a college age offer true responsibility and development. CWP is a program for those that are looking for a transformative experience, but also realize it may be a turbulent path.
