Company You Work For Now: Helios Media Marketing

Title: Founder/Owner

Industry: Marketing

Brief Description of Duties / Responsibilities

My primary role within Helios is to promote business development by networking with other business owners, grow annual revenue and evangelize the importance of online video marketing in today's market.

What Has Been Your Proudest Accomplishment Post-CWP?

Hitting $100,000 in revenue in my first year as owner of Helios Media Marketing.

CWP Career Impact

In one sentence, what has CWP meant to you?

CWP propelled my professional career and enabled me to truly understand the meaning of "creating something from nothing".

How did your CWP experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?

It helped me anticipate the struggle that comes with starting a new business and led me to make extremely smart decisions early on. I learned how to manage cash flow, payroll, materials, etc. while in the program and that translated directly in how I remained profitable in my first year of business.

What do you want to tell your clients about what it meant to work with them and how it has helped you get to where you are today?

To all my clients: Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the opportunity to grow as an individual throughout the program. You gave me the benefit of doubt and trusted me as a human being to deliver a great product, despite being 18-19 years old. Without you believing in me, I would not be where I am today.

What was the greatest lesson you learned from your CWP experience?

Never, ever, be satisfied with how hard you're working toward a goal. Until you achieve it, you can always be doing more to set yourself up for success.

How has the friendships and networks you built during CWP affected you?

I actually founded Helios with a fellow intern from CWP. The friendships that you build in the program could and should last a life time. Not everyone will go into business, but having been through such a monumental experience together, you'll know a person unlike any other friend in your life.

If you had to come up with an one line slogan for CWP, what would it be? :)

CWP is a "Crash Course in the REAL WORLD"

Advice

What advice do you have for potential CWP participants? Current CWP participants?

Attitude is absolutely everything. There will be extreme ups and downs, but remaining positive and motivated from start to finish enables you to succeed. Also, priority #1 should always be... LEADS LEADS LEADS. The more opportunity for sales, the better you'll do.

Many college students struggle to choose between an internship specific to their target industry or doing CWP. What advice would you give them on this subject if they wanted to enter your career field?

Great question. I studied Communication for crying out loud. My interests were in marketing and PR when I started college and chose CWP not only for it being business related, but more so for the fact that I had the opportunity to strap up my boots (figuratively speaking) and create something from nothing. You are solely responsible for how well you do in the program and I really liked the fact that I had 100% control over my success in the program.

What's your best advice for someone interested in entering your career field?

Persistence is underrated.

What's your favorite memory from CWP?

Oh, man. There were many. I'd have to say my favorite memory overall would be getting set up on a date with one of my client's daughters. Book a house and get a hot date; win/win.

Last words of wisdom

Do not be afraid to "fail". There is no such outcome in this program. If you work harder than you ever have in your life and immerse yourself into your business, you'll be a greater individual both personally and professionally after having completed the program.
